There is no blood, no exposed bone and no wound detail anywhere on this page. That was a deliberate decision. The subject gets its effect from the gesture and from the broken ground, and leaving the gore out keeps the sheet usable in a classroom and at a table with mixed ages. It also leaves the hand as clean open shapes that color well instead of turning into a mess of red.

Spacing the fingers apart is what makes it printable. Zombie hands are usually drawn clawed and bunched together, and the slivers of white left between them are too narrow for anyone to work in. Here every pair has real room.

The rubble is the most satisfying part. Two dozen angular chunks ring the wrist, each one a separate facet, and giving neighboring pieces slightly different tones makes the pile look solid. Try a green or gray cast on the hand against warm brown stone. The contrast is what sells the page.
