A cartoon mummy striding forward with both arms stretched out in front, bandages wrapped in long diagonal bands from head to foot. Two wide friendly eyes look out from a gap in the wrapping, and a small smile sits below them.
The bandages do the work on this page. They cross the body at a slant and the spaces between them are wide and open, so there is a clear strip of white to color between every pair of lines. Mummy sheets usually arrive covered in frayed cloth texture and nobody can color those. This one keeps the look and drops the problem.
Those open strips are also an invitation to vary tone. Leaving every other band a shade lighter makes the wrapping turn around the body, and it costs no extra skill. White, cream and tan all read as linen. Gray pushes the figure older and colder.
The face is the reason this works for small children. The eyes are round and cheerful and the mouth is closed, so the figure reads as a friend in costume rather than something to be afraid of. The feet are bare and there is no ground, leaving space for a sarcophagus or a trail of loose bandage.
