Two large cobwebs stretch across opposite corners of this page, one from the upper left and one from the upper right, and two spiders hang in front of a tall traceried gothic window. The web threads run right to the edges of the sheet.
The window behind them gives you four tall lancet panels, a pointed arch and a cluster of quatrefoil shapes in the head. Every panel is open and divided into long narrow lights, which makes this the closest thing here to a stained glass exercise. Pick three colors, repeat them across the panels, and the glass reads as real.
The webs are drawn as fine radiating threads crossed by long curves, and they are the part most people leave alone. That is the right instinct. Pale gray thread or plain white against colored stone keeps them looking like silk rather than wire.
Both spiders are small, round bodied and clearly drawn, with eight legs each that are worth counting with a younger child at the table. Most spider drawings get that number wrong. Leave the wall around the stone surround white and the window stands forward on its own.
