A rag doll sitting on the floor in profile, facing left, with one long braid hanging down her back. The head is a plain circle, the body is soft and rounded, and one large dark eye looks out of the side of her face.
Dolls unsettle people more efficiently than monsters do, and this one proves it without a single frightening detail. There is no blood, no stitched grin and no cracked porcelain. The effect comes entirely from the stillness of the pose and from that one unblinking eye.
The body is the biggest open area and it arrives with no dress pattern, no lace and no buttons. Flat color finishes it fast. Invented stripes, spots or a pinafore take longer and look better. Either way nothing on the page fights back.
The braid is where this sheet earns its keep. It is drawn as a proper rope of overlapping sections, so you can shade each one a half step darker than the last and the whole plait turns three dimensional without any real skill. Yellow, red and black braids all work. The floor is left empty, so there is space for a toy box or a cat.
