A wishing well stands alone and square on to you, drawn large enough to fill most of the page. Its roof is laid in five wide curved shingles, and the board beneath them carries New Year in hollow rounded capitals that follow the slope of the timber. Two upright posts hold that roof above a deep round basin. The basin is crammed with coins, each a circle inside a circle, about twenty of them heaped up so their edges overlap and no two sit at quite the same angle. Below the rim the well body is a barrel of vertical staves bound by one broad hoop, and those staves are wide enough to alternate two colors around it without any fiddly work. More coins have spilled onto the ground at the foot, where two larger stones sit either side. About ten outlined stars float in the white space to the left and right. Since the coins are the only repeated small shape on this sheet, they make a good warm up before the big flat areas of roof and barrel.
