Three pairs of hands are busy here and every one of them is in a bowl. The adult stands at the center with her hair falling forward over one shoulder and both hands wrapped around a whisk in a wide mixing bowl. A child on the left reaches into a second bowl heaped with round fruit, and a third bowl sits in front of a child seated on the right, turned back toward the middle of the scene.
The kitchen behind them has been properly furnished. There is a tall paned door with a handle, open shelving carrying potted plants and a stoppered jar, a lidded pot giving off curls of steam, a small framed mirror and a trailing hanging plant. A rolling pin and a scatter of little cakes lie across the floor at the front.
A thick band of scrollwork surrounds the scene, anchored by solid dark florets at each corner. Those corners are already filled in, so plan your palette around them rather than against them.
