The scarf does the work on this page. It wraps once around the neck as a short striped collar, then drops straight down the front of the body in a long striped tail that ends in a fringe of short straight lines. Every stripe is a separate closed band, so a child who wants to alternate two colors has clean edges to work to all the way down.
Under it the cookie is kept simple. Two open circles sit below the scarf tail, the arms reach out to the sides with a wavy icing cuff at each wrist, and the legs end in two wide rounded feet with no trim at all.
The face is two dot eyes and a curved smile on an otherwise empty head.
What makes this sheet easy to finish is the proportion of plain to patterned. One narrow strip of the page is detailed and everything else is open. A young child can color the body in a few strokes and then treat the scarf as the reward at the end, or skip the stripes entirely and run one color down the whole length of it.
He stands upright in the middle of the paper, well clear of all four edges.
