This rangoli is built for small hands. One large plain circle sits dead in the middle with nothing inside it, and eight fat rounded petals fan out around it like a flower. Between and behind those petals sits a second ring of smaller circles and rounded lobes, so the outer edge of the design comes out scalloped rather than smooth. There are no thin lines anywhere. Every shape is bounded by a thick dark outline and every shape is big enough to color without going over, which is unusual for a rangoli. Traditional floor designs are drawn in fine rice flour and are far too detailed to print at this size, so this one keeps the symmetry and throws away the fine work. Children who like order tend to color it in rings, working from the middle outward and repeating one color per ring. Children who do not will fill it at random, and it still looks deliberate either way because the underlying shape is symmetrical. The large empty middle is the obvious place for a name, a sun, or one more flower.
