Child Excitedly Peeking At Christmas Gifts Coloring Page

A child in pajamas leans around a doorframe at the presents stacked under the tree, caught in the moment before anyone else is awake. This is one of the intricate versions, so the pajama fabric carries a printed pattern, the wrapping on every parcel is patterned differently, and the room behind is filled with decorative work rather than left blank. Adults and confident teenagers will enjoy it. Younger children will find the small enclosed areas hard going.

Since the drama of the picture is one small figure against a dark early morning room, lean into that. Keep the child and the nearest gifts in bright saturated color and let everything behind them fall away into muted blues and grays. A fineliner or a sharp pencil is essentially required for the patterned areas.

The habit of putting gifts under a tree rather than into shoes or stockings is more recent than most people assume. It spread through Britain and America in the middle of the nineteenth century, largely because illustrations of Queen Victoria's family tree were reprinted everywhere.
