This snake lifts its head above a coiled body that is covered end to end in rows of open rings, each one drawn as a circle inside a circle. That doubling is what makes the sheet worth colouring slowly, because every ring gives you two areas rather than one. The neck is banded instead, so the page sets a simple stripe pattern against a dense ring pattern and lets you play them off each other. Try filling only the inner circles and leaving the outer ones white, then reverse it on the far side of the coil. Nothing is printed solid, so you decide where the dark tones land. There is no background to compete with the pattern.
