Thresher Shark With Extra Long Tail Fin Coloring Page

A thresher shark trails an enormously long tail across the page, its body filled with swirls and paisley above a border of wildflowers.

The tail is the reason to print this one. Its upper lobe sweeps from the animal's back all the way to the top right corner, longer than the body it is attached to, and it carries the same swirling pattern that covers the flank. That single line changes the whole balance of the page.

Body decoration comes in several registers. Loose spirals cover the shoulder, fine parallel strokes rake the gill area, and paisley shapes fill the lower fins. None of it repeats exactly, so there is no shortcut to coloring it evenly.

A spray of flowers occupies the upper left corner, small ringed bubbles float through the open water, and a deep band of wildflowers, leaves and seed heads runs along the bottom edge.

Those flowers are drawn at a comfortable size, much larger than the marks on the shark. If a child is working alongside an adult, the meadow band is the natural place to hand over.

The animal rewards restraint. Choose one hue and vary its depth across the pattern rather than assigning every swirl a new color, and the long tail will still read as one continuous form.
