Silky Shark Swimming Through a School of Fish Coloring Page

A large patterned shark cuts through a school of some sixty small striped fish, framed by scrollwork above and open blossoms below.

Count the fish before starting. There are roughly sixty of them, each drawn with the same striped flank and forked tail, filling almost every part of the page the shark does not occupy. They face in several directions, which stops the school from reading as wallpaper.

The animal itself runs left across the middle, its body covered in long flowing strokes that trace the muscle underneath, with a spiral eye and a short line of small teeth. It is substantially bigger than everything around it, and that difference in scale is what gives the page its depth.

A band of scrollwork and a central rosette close off the top edge. Large open blossoms fill both bottom corners, drawn at a much greater scale than the fish, so the eye has somewhere to rest.

The temptation is to color every fish differently. Resisting it pays. Two or three alternating colors through the school, applied in loose diagonal drifts rather than at random, will make the whole shoal move in one direction.

Save the strongest color for the shark. It has to win against sixty competitors.

Fine tools only for the school. Those fish are small.
