A shark swims out through the mouth of a rock cave, and the whole inside of that arch is open white paper. Nothing on this sheet arrives already filled, so the depth of the cave is a color decision rather than a printing one. Try the trick that makes a cave read as deep: keep the paper pale right around the shark and let the color darken as it approaches the rock, so the eye sees distance instead of a flat wall. The arch itself is one thick unbroken outline with only a few curved lines across the stone, which leaves room for layered grays or browns without the sheet turning muddy. Rounded boulders sit along the seabed at the bottom, each one a separate closed shape, and they are the easiest place to start. The shark keeps its own clean outline, with a spread pectoral fin and a row of small teeth. Sharks find their way through dark water using ampullae of Lorenzini, jelly filled pores across the snout that pick up the faint electrical fields other animals give off.
