Pattern runs through the whole body of this animal. Its flank is divided into rounded cells like a mosaic, the dorsal fin repeats the same shapes at a smaller scale, and the eye is drawn as a tight spiral rather than a disc. Coloring it cell by cell turns the shark into stained glass. Coloring across the cells in bands turns it back into a fish. Both work, and the decision changes the page completely.

Below, a mangrove stump sends a dozen tapering roots down into a sandy floor dotted with small pebbles. The roots cross and overlap, so there are pockets of enclosed white space between them that read as gaps in the tangle. Leave some of those pockets white and the roots gain depth immediately.

Leafy branches climb from the stump and meet a band of flowering vine that rules the top edge, and a matching band closes off the bottom.

The teeth are drawn solid and dark. They are meant to stay that way.

One warning about scale: the mosaic cells along the tail are small. A fine tip pen or a sharp pencil will hold them. A marker will not.
