The shark faces you straight on. Its head runs across the page as one wide flat bar, far wider than the body behind it, tapering to a point at each end. Two large round eyes sit on the raised middle of that bar, a broad smile curves underneath, and a tall pointed fin rises from the top of the head. Two pectoral fins spread low and wide, and the tail shows behind the right shoulder.

Count the closed shapes and there are barely a dozen. That makes this one of the easier shark pages on the site, and a good fit for a three or four year old who is still learning to stop at an edge.

The head is the page. Give it the strongest color you have and let the fins and tail drop back a shade or two, otherwise the shape that makes a hammerhead a hammerhead gets lost in an even wash of gray.

A real hammerhead carries its eyes right out at the tips of that bar, further apart than this cartoon shows. The spread gives the fish a wider field of view and room for more of the electrical sensors it uses to find rays buried in sand.
