Head on views are rare in this collection and this is the cleanest one. The animal comes at the viewer with its jaws open, so the mouth forms a broad oval ringed by two rows of small triangular teeth, and the face sits symmetrically around it. Two eyes, two nostril dots, a stubby dorsal above and two pectoral fins thrown out to the sides like wings.
Below the head the body tapers away and finishes in a curled tail, which keeps the whole figure inside one outline.
Almost nothing else is on the sheet. Roughly two thirds of the paper is bare, and the figure is strong enough that it does not need company. The drawing carries whatever background anyone wants to give it, whether that is open ocean, a flat band of color, or a pattern invented from scratch.
Symmetry is the thing to watch. Because the face is balanced left to right, any difference in how the two sides are treated will show immediately. Working both eyes at once, then both nostrils, then each row of teeth in turn, keeps them matched.
Leave the teeth white against a darker mouth. The contrast is what makes the expression land.
There is no round bite mark anywhere on this drawing.
