The composition splits cleanly in two. Everything drawn sits in the lower two thirds: a long cartoon shark facing left, and beneath it a run of seaweed fronds and smooth rounded boulders along the bottom edge. Above that line, the paper is empty.

That emptiness is worth using rather than filling. A pale wash across the top, getting slowly deeper toward the seabed, gives the page a depth that the line work alone does not supply.

The animal is drawn for an early colorist. Its outline is one continuous curve from snout to tail, the mouth turns up at the corner, three gill strokes mark the flank, and a single round eye carries the whole expression. Nothing on the body is small enough to be fiddly.

The seabed is where the detail lives. Each frond branches into narrow fingers, and the boulders behind them are simple closed domes. Working the fronds in several greens against flatter boulders keeps the bottom band from reading as one shape.

The fins repay a slightly different value from the body, particularly the tall dorsal and the long lower lobe of the tail.

Rounded rather than sharp, this one suits the youngest colorists in the house.
