The adult takes up most of the sheet, drawn with a single smooth outline, three curved gill slits and a mouth full of small even teeth. The pup swims below and slightly behind, and it is drawn much rounder than its parent, closer to an egg with fins, with two large eyes and no teeth at all. One sprig of seaweed sits in the bottom right corner and that is the entire background. Very little on this page is small enough to cause trouble, which makes it a good one for a three or four year old holding a fat crayon. The only shapes needing any care at all are the teeth and the two eyes. Dark on top and white underneath is what a real shark looks like and it works fine here, but the pup is round enough to carry something silly without looking wrong. The picture is friendlier than the biology behind it. Almost no shark looks after its young. Most pups are born fully formed and swim away on their own within minutes, so a pair like this would not stay together for long.
