Pizza Mandala Coloring Page

A pizza dotted with pepperoni sits at the center of this mandala, ringed by a bumpy band of crust, and everything else turns outward from it: rows of petals, leaf shapes, four eye shaped medallions at the four compass points and a rim of pointed tips. Every shape is an empty outline. That is what makes a mandala restful, because you can settle on one color for a ring and repeat it the whole way around without deciding anything again until the ring is done. The shapes grow larger toward the rim, so the ink load stays light and the sheet never crowds. Starting at the middle keeps the pizza as the subject of the page. Starting at the rim lets the rings take over instead, and both readings are worth having. Two colors alternating around a ring reads cleaner than five, and leaving one entire ring white gives the design somewhere to breathe. None of it has to look like food. Many people color the pizza in proper warm tones and then run blues and purples through the outer rings, which sets the center off far better than more warm color would. Use pencils rather than markers in the smaller inner shapes, since a marker tip will run two of them together.
