A penguin swims across the middle of this page with its body angled down and one flipper swept out wide behind it, drawn long and flat like a wing. The head is turned so the beak points forward and slightly down, and a single round eye sits above it. Fine parallel strokes run along the back and the far flipper while the whole front of the body is left smooth and open.

To the right swims a fish, and it is very much alive rather than caught. It faces the penguin with a round eye and an open mouth, its body scored with a diamond net of scales, three broad bands across the middle and spread fan shaped fins at the tail and belly.

Around all four sides runs a light border of small flowers, curling stems, leaves and floating seed shapes, drawn in a much finer line than the two animals. A few small bubbles rise between them.

The two subjects are bold and the frame is delicate, so a thick tool works for the middle and a thin one for the edges.
