Penguin Family Huddling Close For Warmth Coloring Page

Six penguins press together in one warm bundle of overlapping shapes, three chicks in front and the adults leaning over them.

Six penguins are packed into a single rounded mound that fills almost the whole sheet. The tallest adult stands at the back with its head bowed forward and its long beak angled down, and a small round chick head pokes up over its shoulder with one dot for an eye. A second adult leans in from the right, and three chicks are lined up across the front.

What makes this one unusual is how few lines it uses. The bodies overlap so heavily that they read as one large silhouette with a handful of curves dividing it, and most of those enclosed areas are enormous. Each chick has a small wedge beak, one flipper laid along its side, and a pair of splayed webbed feet along the bottom edge.

There is no ground line, no snow and no sky, just the birds on bare paper. That is a real advantage for a very young colorist, because there is nothing small enough to be fiddly and nothing to stay inside except a few broad shapes. Anyone wanting more can treat the big central belly as open space and put a snowdrift or a low sun behind the group.
