Eight penguins walk in single file from the lower left toward the upper right, and each one is drawn a little smaller than the bird ahead of it, so the queue seems to stretch far into the distance. The two nearest fill a good part of the page. Their beaks are heavy and slightly hooked, short feathery strokes run across the crown and down the shoulders, and their webbed feet spread wide on the ground with the toes marked separately.

Behind the line, the upper half of the sheet is given over to flowers rather than ice. Large round blooms with dense centers sit in both top corners, smaller blossoms and buds crowd the middle, and thin stems curl through the gaps with one butterfly among them. A ground line sweeps behind the birds and separates the two halves.

The bottom of the page is left almost empty, which balances the crowded band above it. That split is useful. A colorist can spend real time on the flower bank, choose a different shade for each bird in the queue, and still have somewhere restful to stop.
