A small panda sits square on the ground with both back legs stretched out in front, the pads and little toes showing on the soles of its feet. It holds a short piece of bamboo in both front paws and has one end in its mouth. The eye patches are large black ovals, the ears are two neat half circles, and the rest of the body is left completely open. Pairs of tall bamboo canes stand at either side of the page with segmented stems and narrow leaves, four in all, and a single soft oval beneath the panda stands in for the ground.

There is a great deal of white space here, which makes it the easiest panda in the set to finish. Perhaps eight areas in total and none of them small.

The canes are segmented into neat sections by rings, so they are a tidy place to show a child how alternating two tones up a stem makes a plant look round rather than flat.

Bamboo is a grass, not a tree, and some kinds grow more than a yard in a single day. A panda will work through forty pounds of it between dawn and dark and still be hungry.
