Owl Perched In Dense Forest At Night Coloring Page

The busiest owl page on the site. Trees, foliage, patterned undergrowth and falling leaves press in on every side of the bird.

Line work covers nearly every part of this sheet. Tall trunks rise on both sides with deep vertical bark grain, a pale moon shows through a gap in the upper left, and the space between the trees fills with small leaves, berries, circles and dots falling through the air. The owl perches at the center on a heavy branch, its brow carrying a patterned band, its face broken into fine strokes and its body worked in layered scaling from throat to tail. Below the branch the undergrowth turns almost abstract: coiled ferns, spirals, seed heads and broad leaves packed edge to edge with no white paper left between them. Anyone under about ten will find this frustrating, and that is worth knowing before you print it. For an adult it is one of the better pages here, because the density means you can put it down and pick it up a dozen times without losing your place. Work outward from the bird rather than left to right. Choose the owl's color first, then keep every plant in a narrow band of greens so the bird stays the one thing on the page that is a different color, or the whole scene closes over and the owl vanishes into it.
