A lion walks straight out of the picture toward you, head level, one front paw lifted. The mane is the centerpiece: hundreds of long tapering strokes radiate from the face and fall past the shoulders. Behind him a meadow of grass, seed heads and dandelion clocks runs back to a low horizon, and two ornate floral flourishes sit in the upper corners.

White lions are not albinos. They carry a recessive gene that reduces pigment without removing it, so the eyes stay gold and the nose stays dark, and that is worth knowing before you start.

It also gives you a problem worth solving. Leaving the animal almost entirely white and putting your color into the meadow and the corner flourishes looks far more striking than filling the coat with pale gray. Add the faintest cream shading under the jaw and along the belly and the shape still holds.

This is an adult level page. The mane alone can take half an hour if you follow the direction of each stroke.
