A big cat picks its way down a rocky ridge, head lowered and shoulders dropped. Its face carries the finest work on the sheet: close hatching across the cheek, dark speckles scattered over the muzzle and brow, and long whiskers fanning into the white. From the neck back the body turns into pattern. Paisley teardrops, tight spirals and concentric rings flow along the flank, and rows of large filled circles march down the foreleg and out along the heavy tail that curves up behind.
The cat stands on a stack of angular boulders split by crack lines. Beyond them, on the left, a hatched peak rises over a small lake with conifers at its foot, and on the right a spray of curling tendrils and tiny leaves fills the margin.
Two very different jobs sit on one sheet. The patterned body is closed shape work best done with fine tips and a limited palette, three or four colors rotated so no two neighbors match. The landscape behind is the opposite, all broad areas, and it will hold the composition together if you keep it pale. Leave the filled circles black. They are the anchor everything else reads against.
