The roar is the whole page here. This lion has his jaws opened as far as they will go, and that open mouth sits almost dead center of the sheet as one big rounded shape, with a broad tongue filling the lower half of it and four pointed teeth set around the rim. His eyes are squeezed shut into two curved lines, which is what a real roar does to a face.
Around all of it the mane throws outward. Every strand is a narrow triangle with a clean point, and they spread from the head in all directions so the upper half of the paper reads as a starburst. Short whisker lines cross both cheeks, and two rounded ears push up through the fur near the top.
Below the mane the body stays deliberately plain. A pointed bib of chest fur hangs between the front legs, four paws line up along the bottom with toe lines scored across them, and a thin tail loops out to the right and finishes in a small tuft.
Almost every shape on this sheet is closed and roomy, which suits young colorers working with thick crayons. Put two different warm shades on the tongue and the mane, then leave the muzzle pale so the open jaws stay the loudest thing on the page.
