Horse Rearing Up Dramatically With Flowing Mane Coloring Page

Everything in this drawing rises. The horse balances on its two hind hooves, planted flat on a thin line of turf, while both forelegs lift and fold at the knee with the hooves hanging down. The line of the belly, chest and throat carries your eye upward to a head held high in profile with the ears pricked forward.

The mane blows back off the crest in long wavy locks. Each one is ruled with fine parallel strokes instead of being filled in, so there is real hair texture here to color and no solid black anywhere to fight. The tail repeats that pattern lower down, falling in strands that curl away from the hindquarters.

Under the hooves sit three loose bands of grass, sparse at the top and thickening toward the bottom edge. They place the horse in a meadow without boxing it in, and the rest of the sheet stays open white paper.

Because so much of the page is empty, this one rewards a background more than most. A single flat color laid behind the horse makes the rearing shape read from across a room, and the fine mane strokes stay visible through it as long as you keep that wash pale.
