Two horses share this page, and they are drawn at very different sizes. The mare takes up the whole left side. Her head is down at a small clump of grass, her forelock sweeps across her brow, and one large eye sits open beneath it with a bright dot left white. Her tail hangs behind the foal in long heavy strands that reach almost to her hocks.

The foal stands at her flank, turned to face you straight on. Its legs are thin and a little splayed, the way a young one balances, and each ends in a neat rounded hoof. A small tuft of hair stands up between its pricked ears, and its eyes are wide and round with the same white highlights.

Across the bottom of the sheet, well below the pair, runs a separate band of tall grass blades. It behaves more like a border than like ground, so you can treat it as its own strip of color.

The shapes are large and open, with no shading to work around, which makes this a good sheet for thick markers or chunky crayons. One trick worth trying is to color the mare a shade or two darker than the foal. It keeps them apart even where their outlines touch.
