The dog here is a French bulldog, upright and facing forward, with the broad flat muzzle and tall rounded ears that come with the breed. A small tongue shows at the bottom of the mouth. Creases are marked across the brow and along the chest and legs, and the muzzle carries a field of whisker dots.
Behind the animal the background turns ornamental. Loose scrollwork curls fill the upper half in thin line, four huge daisies sit in the corners, and beds of small flowers, buds and long leaves bank up on both sides to the height of the dog's shoulder. Underfoot the ground breaks into tiny petals and dots.
That contrast is the whole point of the sheet. The dog is mostly large open shapes; everything around it is fine work. Finish the background first while your hand is steady, then come back and lay flat color on the body, which will read as a solid silhouette against all that detail.
A fine tip pen or a sharp pencil is close to essential for the scrollwork. The corner daisies are big enough to take any medium you like.
