The animal is caught mid stride with one back foot down and the other lifted, its tail held straight out behind for balance and its mouth open on a row of small teeth. It runs from left to right through bamboo, and the artist has filled the background almost solid with long pointed leaves, stalks and grass so the raptor reads as a clean pale shape against clutter.
