The dinosaur stands in shallow water in profile, facing right, with a small fish held crosswise in its lowered jaws. One tall sail rises unbroken along the back, drawn as a fan of long ridge lines running from the spine to the top edge. Short arms end in curved claws, the heavy tail sweeps down and to the left, and three or four ripple rings spread out from the feet where they break the surface.
The sail holds most of the line work. Those ridges split it into narrow panels, so color them as a graded run, palest at the base and deepest at the top. A flat fill loses the shape that gives the animal its name.
Everything below the waterline can stay lighter. Pick one pale tone for the water, carry it over the toes and the ripple rings, and the spinosaurus will look like it is standing in the river rather than on top of it.
This dinosaur really did fish. Cone shaped teeth, a long narrow snout and nostrils set high on the skull all point to an animal that hunted in water, and fish scales have turned up in the gut region of related spinosaurid fossils.
