A long necked sauropod stands in the shallows of a slow river with its head raised and turned toward you. Its whole body is covered in decorative pattern work, spirals, dots and small mandala shapes rather than realistic hide. A palm leans in from the left, a second palm stands behind its neck, and reeds and broad leaves crowd both banks. A hatchling looks out of the water at the bottom of the frame and an egg rests on the bank beside it.
The patterned body is a mandala exercise as much as an animal. Treat each enclosed shape as its own small decision and the page will hold your attention far longer than a plain dinosaur would.
Keep the water pale and the plants mid toned so the patterning stays dominant.
Diplodocus was longer than a tennis court but weighed less than many shorter dinosaurs, because its neck bones were hollowed out by air sacs in the same way a bird's are.
