The sauropod stands with its neck angled up and its muzzle already buried in a dense ball of foliage, so the picture catches the animal mid mouthful rather than walking toward the tree. Its head is small and rounded with two nostril dots and a curved smile, which keeps the whole thing friendly rather than imposing. Three palm trunks frame the scene, each drawn with short banded strokes down the bark, and the ground is packed with long blade leaves that reach almost to the animal's knee. Count on the foliage taking most of the time. There are several hundred small leaf shapes and no two of them need the same green, so this suits a child who has just been given a wide pencil set and wants to use all of it. The body itself is left almost completely empty, and that is deliberate: one flat color across that big shape makes the busy background settle into the background. Brachiosaurus had front legs longer than its back legs, the reverse of most dinosaurs, which tilted its shoulders up and let it reach leaves that the animals around it could not.
