A rooster and a hen stand together in the barnyard on one sheet, which is the printable most people picture when they search for hen and rooster coloring sheets. The rooster takes the left half with his tall comb, his arching tail and his longer legs. The hen takes the right, lower to the ground, rounder in the body, with a small comb and a short flat tail. Nothing overlaps, so you can colour one bird completely and come back to the other later. Use the pair to talk about how the two birds actually differ, because the drawing makes it obvious: size, tail shape, comb height and the set of the neck. Only a hen lays eggs, and a flock keeps laying perfectly well with no rooster in it at all. Give the rooster the bolder colours and keep the hen in warm browns and creams if you want the sheet to read the way a real farmyard does, or ignore all of that and make both of them purple.
