Only the top half of this kitten is visible. It has hooked both front paws over the edge of a box and lifted its head just far enough to look out, ears up, whiskers spread. The box is not plain, and swirling patterns run across both visible faces. Behind it, a symmetrical crest of scrollwork rises above the ears, and four large blooms sit at the corners.
The patterned box is the surprise here. It gives you a decorative object to fill rather than a flat brown rectangle, and it takes bright, unrealistic colors better than the animal does.
For the kitten, work the face first while your pencil is still sharp. The eyes and the nose are small and they set the expression for the whole page.
Cats push into boxes because the enclosed sides reduce stress, a result confirmed by a shelter study in which cats given boxes settled into a new environment noticeably faster than cats without them.
