A cat has curled into a near perfect circle, tail wrapped forward past its front paws, eyes half closed. A canopy of broad lobed leaves arches over it, drawn with heavy veining and stacked three and four deep. Small flowers and curling tendrils fill the lower corners, and light scroll flourishes finish the edges.
The body is covered in long directional hatching that follows the curve of the back. Pencils will hold that texture and markers will flood it. Plan on a long session, and treat the leaves and the animal as two separate jobs.
Fall colors are the obvious route, but there is a better version of it. Keep the leaves warm and the cat cool, a gray or blue toned tabby, and it separates cleanly from the canopy instead of blending into it.
Cats seek out enclosed spots with cover overhead because a roof of any kind removes one direction an ambush could come from. A pile of leaves does the job as well as a box does.
