Measure this one against the others and the proportions stand out. The wingspan runs almost the full width of the square, but the drawing is only about half as tall as it is wide, so the butterfly reads as a long shallow arc rather than an upright shape.
Each forewing is a broad rounded triangle whose cells start narrow at the body and widen as they travel out, five or six to a wing. A black margin caps the outer edge and carries a single file of white ovals that shrink as they round the corner. The hindwings repeat the idea at a smaller scale with a hem of dots along the bottom curve. Seven or eight rings band the abdomen, and the antennae finish in open circles instead of filled knobs, a small touch that keeps the line weight consistent.
Nothing else appears on the paper. No flowers, no ground, no border.
Morphos rank among the largest butterflies alive, some spanning eight inches, and they feed on fermenting fruit rather than nectar.
Because the background stays empty, this is a good sheet for testing a new set of pencils.
