The wingspan runs almost the full width of the page. Both upper wings sweep out and forward to a point, and the lower pair tapers into two long streamers that end in small paddles near the bottom edge, which is the feature the real insect is known for. Stippling runs along the front of each wing and pools into soft patches further in, so the shading is already drawn for you and a light hand with color over the top works better than trying to cover it. Four eyespots sit two above and two below, each a closed oval with a crescent inside, and they are the natural place for the one strong color on the sheet. The body is banded into segments and the antennae are feathered rather than plain lines. Three corners carry loose sprays of flowers and curling stems, and a small crest floats above the head, all of it drawn in much lighter line weight than the insect. Keep those decorations pale. A luna moth is pale green with a maroon edge along the front of the wing, and that pairing is worth copying.
