Caterpillar On A Leaf Transforming Into A Butterfly Coloring Page

This is the simplest page in the butterfly set and the one to hand a three year old. A plump caterpillar walks along a single long leaf, its body built from seven rounded segments with a pair of stubby legs under each, and it is smiling. Two short antennae curve up from its head and it has one big eye with a highlight in it.
Rising behind the caterpillar is a pair of wings, rounded and mostly empty, with one small spiral marked near the top. Those wings belong to nobody yet. That is the point. The drawing catches the change halfway through, so a parent can talk through what happens next without needing a second picture.
The leaf balances on a long curved stem that runs off the bottom of the sheet, and apart from a few vein lines there is nothing else on the paper.
Inside a chrysalis a caterpillar does not simply grow wings. Most of its body breaks down to liquid first, then rebuilds from small discs of cells it has carried since hatching.
Fat crayons are right here. Fewer than fifteen shapes need filling.
