Somebody had fun with the eyespots here. On the lower wings they are not abstract rings at all, they are drawn as actual eyes, two on the left pair and one large one on the right, each with a solid black pupil and a white glint set into it. The effect is a butterfly that seems to be looking back at you from the page.
The upper wings keep the pattern more restrained. A big rounded blank near the tip, then two small ringed circles below it, and a run of long curved cells sweeping back toward the body. The whole insect tilts a few degrees off vertical, which stops it feeling stiff.
Lines are thick and well spaced. Perhaps twenty regions need filling on the entire sheet, so a four year old with a fat crayon can finish it without going outside a single one.
Eyespots are defensive. A bird that lunges at a false eye takes a bite of wing edge instead of a body, and the butterfly flies off with a notch in it.
Ring each eyespot in a contrasting shade so the stare survives being colored.
