The brim of a floppy sun hat spreads right across the top of this page, dipping low at both sides and leaving only the lower half of the axolotl's face uncovered. A plain band runs around the crown, splitting the hat into two large empty areas. The face below is all mouth: a very wide smile curving nearly ear to ear, with two plain ring eyes above it that have been left as open circles rather than filled pupils.
Small two-prong gill stalks poke out from under the brim on either side. The body is simple and unmarked, standing on four short limbs, with the tail sweeping away to the right in one smooth taper.
Those open eyes are an unusual gift. They can be colored like the rest of the face, filled dark for a conventional look, or left white so the hat does all the talking. Because there is so little detail anywhere else, this sheet rewards a bold flat approach: one strong color on the hat, one band in a second tone, and a quiet body underneath. Younger colorists will find the large unbroken areas very forgiving.
