Axolotl Wearing a Flower Coloring Page

One large flower sits on top of this axolotl's head. It has five rounded petals around a plain circular center and it rests directly on the skull, between the two sets of gills rather than ringed around the head. The petals are left open inside and the center is a clean circle, so the whole flower takes color in six simple pieces.

The gills are finer here than on most sheets in this collection, branching out from each side of the head in three slim prongs that taper to points. The eyes are large and filled dark with highlights left white, short lash marks sit above them, and the smile stretches nearly the full width of the face. The body is plain and tapers into a tail that curves away to the right, and all four limbs show their toes.

The flower is the natural focal point, so start there. A yellow center with white or pink petals is the safe and pretty choice. If you want the flower to really sit forward, keep the axolotl in a single pale wash and let the petals be the only strong color on the page. The slim gills take a fine tip better than a thick marker.
