Both arms reach straight up above the head on this page, hands open and fingers splayed in a full morning stretch. The raised limbs frame the face on either side and partly cover the gills, which push out behind the elbows as soft feathery clusters. The result is a tall narrow shape at the top of the sheet that opens out into a broad body below.
The face itself is calm: two round eyes with small dark pupils, two dot nostrils set well apart and a smile that curves gently rather than stretching wide. The torso is pear shaped and completely plain, resting on two splayed feet, with the tip of the tail just peeking out between them.
All that empty space inside the body is the main event, so it is worth planning. A gradient running from a deeper tone at the feet up to something lighter near the shoulders suggests a rounded form without a single extra line. The hands and the gill clusters are the fiddliest areas, so work those before committing to the big wash. Keep the fingers paler than the arms and the stretch stays legible.
