Both eyes are closed on this axolotl, drawn as two downward curves that arc above an enormous beaming smile. The mouth is the widest line on the sheet, running most of the way across the oval head and lifting at both corners into small cheek dimples. There is no pupil, no nostril and no shading anywhere on the face, which leaves it almost entirely blank.

The gills are the opposite. Each side carries a leafy branching plume angled upward, built from short lobes that read more like holly than like feathers, with slimmer stalks beneath them. The body is simple and rounded, standing on two visible feet with four toes each, and the tail flicks up and away to the right.

With a face this empty, color choice decides the mood entirely. A warm peach or coral across the whole head reads as a contented blush, while a cool lavender makes the same expression feel sleepy instead. The gill plumes have the most internal structure, so they are the natural place for two tones layered against each other. A touch of pink at the cheek corners finishes the expression.
