Axolotl Peeking Over a Rock Coloring Page

A large boulder takes up the whole bottom half of this page, running almost from edge to edge, with one long facet line across its face and small tufts of grass sprouting at either side of its base. The axolotl is behind it, showing only from the chest up. Two hands grip the top edge of the rock with the fingers hooked over, and a short length of tail appears past the rock on the right.
The head is wide and the gills branch out on both sides in soft rounded prongs. Two large eyes are filled dark with a white highlight left in each, two spots mark the top of the skull, and the smile is broad and easy.
The rock is the biggest single shape here and it is completely empty, which makes it a good place to practice shading rather than flat color. Work gray from the bottom up and leave the top lighter where the light would fall, and the boulder turns solid. Then put the brightest color on the axolotl so it lifts away from the stone. Green on the grass tufts finishes the corners off.
