A tall straight-sided jar stands at the center of this page with a flat screw lid on top and a narrow collar beneath it. Inside, an axolotl hangs suspended in the middle of the glass, arms relaxed at its sides and feet hanging loosely, as though drifting rather than standing. Its tail tapers to a long slim point and curls gently across the base of the jar.
The jar walls are drawn with a single highlight line down the left side to suggest glass, and the bottom is marked by one shallow ellipse. Branching gill stalks spread out from the head and very nearly brush the inside of the jar on both sides. The face is small and content, with two bright eyes and an easy smile.
Glass is easiest when you resist filling it. Leave most of the jar white, add the faintest blue only near the walls and the base ellipse, and the container will read as transparent immediately. The lid is the one place for a solid color, so a bright metal tone or a flat red works there. A soft pink axolotl inside pale blue water is the combination that sells this page.
