An axolotl pushes up out of a cracked egg at the center of this sheet, front feet braced on the broken rim and a wide smile across its face. Its head is dotted with small raised spots, and a short frill of gills sweeps back from each cheek. The shell below it stays mostly plain, split by a few thin fracture lines, which makes it the largest open shape here.
Big symmetrical blooms fill the top corners and run along the upper edge, each built from pointed petals around a plain round hub. Below the egg, rounded pebbles and long pointed leaves close off the bottom. The midground between them is packed with small loops, rings and squiggles.
Start with the shell. Leaving it pale, or working it in a single soft tone, keeps the hatchling readable against everything crowding in behind. The blooms at the top have plain centers that serve well as accent points, so save your brightest choice for those few circles and let the busier midground stay muted.
