This is a quiet sheet with a great deal of line work in it. Raked sand fills the lower two thirds of the page in long concentric rings that widen as they come toward you, curving around a cluster of three boulders set just off center. A stone lantern stands on the right bank with a tiered cap and a small opening in its housing. On the left a low roofed structure sits behind a rail. A single cherry branch reaches in across the top, thick with small round blossoms and unopened buds.

The rake lines are the whole exercise. Leave them white and the sand reads as sand. Fill the channels between them with one pale tone and the ripples turn into water. Either choice works, and the page changes completely depending on which you pick.

Save the blossoms until last. There are hundreds of them and they go faster with a fine tip than with a crayon. Vary two or three close shades across the branch rather than filling every flower identically, and the canopy gains a depth that flat color cannot give it.
