A single tree fills this page, and its whole silhouette is designed to read as a circle. The branches fan up and outward in a wide dome, the roots fan down and outward to match, and the two halves close on each other at the sides so the outline comes round.
The trunk is short and heavy in the middle, drawn with long parallel grain lines running up its length and splitting where the bark divides. Above, the branches fork again and again into thinner and thinner limbs, and every one of the outermost twigs finishes in a small pointed leaf bud. Those buds are scattered right around the crown, each one a plain closed oval with a single line down its center.
Below, the roots do the same thing in reverse, splitting into narrower and narrower tendrils that taper to fine points and curl slightly where they reach the outer edge.
There is no ground line, no background and no decoration of any kind. The tree floats on bare white paper, which keeps every branch clearly separated and makes this a good page for working outward from the trunk one limb at a time.
